The European Marine Board (EMB) is a unique pan-European forum aimed at developing common positions on research priorities and strategies within the European marine science in order to stimulate cooperation between the various stakeholders. The board consists out of leading marine-maritime institutes and funding agencies.
On Wednesday the 6th of December, the European Marine Board organizes its 6th EMB Forum in Brussels with the theme: ‘What role can marine science play in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals?’ During this EMB Forum, an overview will be given of the
UN 2030 process and the
Sustainable Development Goals, the results of the
UN Ocean Conference that took place in New York (5-9 June) earlier this year and other relevant progress. Scientists, academics, economists, lawyers, policy makers and administrators, industry and NGOs are all welcome to brainstorm and participate in discussions hereof. Furthermore, the opportunity is given to exchange opinions and share insights on the role of marine research in policy advice, the institutional framework for international ocean governance and the search for resources to improve current modus operandi. The purpose of the day is to identify common challenges and needs, as well as to identify what opportunities and incentives are needed to fully engage the marine research community for this process of international ocean management.
