The Dr. Edouard Delcroix Prize is a triennial international scientific prize (EUR 25.000) awarded to a researcher or research group to reward scientific research in the broad context of oceans and human health. For the second time, an Encouragement Prize Dr. Edouard Delcroix, worth 2.500 EUR, will be awarded to a young scientist who is at the start of his/her research career. Deadline is 31 December 2019.
These awards are the legacy of Dr. Edouard Delcroix (1891-1973), a Belgian orthopaedic surgeon and a pioneer in thalassotherapy. He wanted the money to be spent on promoting basic and applied scientific research that makes a significant contribution to (1) improving knowledge of the potential health benefits of marine ecosystems (e.g. the "Blue Gym" effect, the exploration of marine biodiversity, thalassotherapy and functional rehabilitation in seawater) and on (2) solutions for human diseases related to the marine environment (e.g. harmful algal blooms and other biogenic toxins, eutrophication, transmission of pathogens and chemicals, and the impact of human activities such as aquaculture).
