The recently launched Horizon 2020 project UNITED is investigating how the scarce space at sea can be used by multiple users. For five existing demonstration pilots in three European seas, the technical, regulatory, economic, social and environmental requirements and impacts are being investigated if multiple commercial activities want to develop there together. An interactive webinar on 3 June (12:00-14:00) will introduce you to the project and the pilot sites.
One of the UNITED pilots is located in the Belgian North Sea (Parkwind), where it is being investigated to what extent offshore wind is associated with the aquaculture production of patte oysters and nature restoration, i.e. the restoration of original flat oyster reefs. The other pilots investigate other combinations between energy production (wind and floating solar panels), tourism and aquaculture. For example, the five pilots represent a wide range of environmental and regulatory conditions.
Consult the UNITED website for more information about the project or subscribe to the 6-monthly UNITED newsletter. Participate in the webinar 'Challenges, risks and barriers for large-scale commercial roll-out' on the afternoon of Wednesday 3 June via the link below. You will then receive all instructions for participation.
