De unité de Gestion des Ressources Aquatiques et Aquaculture (UGERAA) maakt deel uit van de onderzoekseenheid Freshwater and Oceanic Science Unit of Research (FOCUS). Ze werd in 2020 opgericht als een vereniging tussen het laboratoire de Démographie des Poissons et d'Hydro-écologie (LDPH) en het centre de Formation et de Recherche en Aquaculture (CEFRA). De UGERAA werkt nauw samen met de unité de Biologie du Comportement (ULg) en de vzw CERER-Pisciculture. Het onderzoeksteam gebruikt de vis als biologisch model om fundamenteel en toegepast onderzoek te verrichten in:
- beheer van aquatische hulpbronnen: gedragsecologie, populatiedynamica, hydro-ecologie, behoud en duurzame ontwikkeling van visbestanden;
- aquacultuur: voortplantingsbiologie en -controle, geslachtsbepaling, genetische selectie en verbetering van de groei, welzijn van de vis en ontwikkeling van kweeksystemen in overeenstemming met ecologische duurzaamheid. Het onderzoek betreft voornamelijk zoetwatervissoorten in Europa en in Afrika in het kader van de ontwikkelingssamenwerking met landen op het zuidelijk halfrond.
