Save the date - FUST Ocean event 14 and 15 May

Since the formal start of cooperation between UNESCO and Flanders in 1998, the Flanders-UNESCO Trust Fund for the support of UNESCO’s activities in the field of Science” (FUST) has provided resources for projects by UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme (IHP), Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). FUST is co-administered by the Flemish Department for Economy, Science and Innovation (EWI).

The FUST Ocean event will present a remarkable opportunity to highlight achievements which were enabled through FUST in the presence of guests from partner countries and international organisations involved. The event will focus on the recent results and impacts of on-going key projects related to oceans and coastal areas, such as:

  • OceanTeacher Global Academy, IOC’s flagship project for capacity development;
  • The Caribbean Marine Atlas;
  • Southeast Pacific data and information network in support to integrated coastal area management;
  • Biosphere Reserves as a Tool for Coastal and Island Management in the South-East Pacific Region;
  • Development of Information Products and Services   for Ocean Assessments.

The project coordinators from the benefiting regions will provide additional information on their project and will also be available for questions.

The two-day event has limited access but parallel to the event there’s a public exhibition for researchers, officials and the general public. This exhibition runs from Monday afternoon the 14th of May to Friday afternoon May 18th.

Both the private event and the public expo will take place at the “Vlaamse Overheid Herman Teirlinckgebouw”, Havenlaan 88, 1000 Brussels. The event is co-organised with support of the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). For further information, please e-mail:
