Xiphinema basilgoodeyi n. sp. is described and figured from specimens collected mainly about the roots of Coffea arabica L. in Congo. The description is based on one male, 36 females and 176 larvae. X. basilgoodeyi is close to but differentiated from X. index Thorne & Allen, 1950 and X. diversicaudatum (Micoletzky, 1927) Thorne, 1939 as defined by Goodey, Peacock & Pitcher (1960). Observations on the stylet formation in Xiphinema (cf. Coomans & De Coninck, 1963) and considerations on measurements and relative growth (Coomans & Bracke, 1964) are mainly based on specimens of the species described here.
