The Martil-Allila plain is a part of the series of alluvial plains of the Moroccan Rifs Mediterranean border. Alluvial terraces constituted by gravel, sand, silt and clay form it. In spite of the lithological variability, the analysis of borehole data has revealed the typical lithological structure of the plain. The interpretation of geoelectrical soundings, supported by results obtained from hydrochemical and hydrogeological observations, has shown the presence of an unconfined aquifer with brackish salt water, separated by an aquitard from a confined aquifer containing fresh water.
