Description

In the framework of the Raversijde Living Lab project, an exhaustive campaign has started with the objective to investigate the occurrence and generation mechanisms of ig waves in the Belgian coast, focusing on the influence of the interaction of ig waves and their directionality on the hydro- and morphodynamics on the beach in front of the dike.

An array of cross-shore spatially separated pressure sensors is deployed to enable the decomposition of the wave signal into its shoreward and seaward propagating components.

These sensors will be placed strategically year after year, applying the information obtained from the first poles to adapt the position of the poles to follow for an increased accurate measurement of the direction of the ig waves. These measurements could point to others origins of ig waves. Moreover, measurements along the beach unit the artificial dike cross-section are necessary to be able to investigate the wave transformations in the shoaling, surf, and runup zone.
