Description
This dataset contains a set of experimental data assessing the proportion of biota and plastic caught during the operation of two non-commercial, generic, and custom-made plastic clean-up mechanisms. Four parameters have been tested: flow velocity, plastic items, biota items, and number of plastic items. All tests were performed in an experimental current flume. more
Four parameters are tested: flow velocity (0.1 - 0.2 m/s, 0.2 - 0.3 m/s and 0.3 - 0.4 m/s), biota items (dry reed and (commercial) cherry dried seeds, representing distinct biota items based on their size, shape and density), plastic items (films, bottles, foams, and a mix of these three. These items represent plastic litter items based on their combined traits: size, shape, polymer, and density) and varying numbers of plastic items (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100). All tests were performed in an experimental current flume. Each condition has a specific set of parameters and three replicates. The dataset has a README file, a data file and a sheet called "Details - mix of 3 plastics" which contains the tests with the mix of the 3 plastic items with the individual counts of film, bottles and foam). Scope Themes: Environmental quality/pollution Keywords: Fresh water, By-catch, Experimental research, Plastic clean-up mechanisms, Plastic debris Temporal coverage
