HMRC is a semi-autonomous entity within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at
University College Cork. Primary objective is providing a capability for carrying out advanced research
of international status in all aspects of engineering in the marine environment. The Centre houses the
only experimental wave research facilities in Ireland which were significantly upgraded during the E.U.
STRIDE Operational Programme for Ireland (1991-1994). A wide variety of specialist instrumentation
and high speed data acquisition systems is available together with a high quality electronic and
mechanical workshop. A computer system, with an extensive suite of proprietary numerical modelling
tools, is also maintained by the Centre.
