FHR agrees to share a selection of towing tank tests with ULiège upon the following conditions:
The test selection is based on utility for comparison with CFD computations foreseen
Dr. Wim Van Hoydonck (FH) should be a member of Asif's PhD commission at ULiège to
do the quality assurance of CFD computations by Asif using data from FH
and in this function be a co-author of any publication that uses the above mentioned data
The work performed by dr. Van Hoydonck is limited to what is considered a normal amount of time for a PhD commission member.
If the amount of work is to be exceeded or the quality is not granted, dr. Van Hoydonck can stop the project, informing you in due time.
Objectives: the focus of this research is the hydrodynamics of very shallow and confined waters and its effect on ship performance including the following:
Understanding of very shallow and confined waters hydrodynamics and its effects on ship performance through literature review.
Scale effects on frictional resistance, viscous pressure resistance, wave making resistance, wake field, hull-propeller interaction and sinkage/trim in very shallow waters.
Effect of drift angle on ship resistance in very shallow and confined waters.
Shallow water effect on wake field distribution.
An insight into hull-propeller interaction in shallow water
