This study aims at an inter-disciplinary, empirical analysis of those factors that influence the competitiveness of ports. It is based on the co-operation of the three institutions of the University of Antwerp. From this inter-disciplinary, empirical study, we shall derive recommandations to improve the competitiveness of individual ports and of clusters of ports in general, and of Antwerp and the Belgian ports in particular.
