Abstract
The processes affecting circulation are described; basic hydraulic equations developed and averaged over time to remove short term turbulent fluctuations. For one dimensional flow, the equations are averaged over depth and cross section. They are then linearized and discretized to give numerical equations. On the basis of these, explicit and implicit finite difference models of the Mombasa Estuaries are developed. The estuaries are divided into segments of equal length which are assumed prismatic with rectangular cross-section. There is a reasonable agreement between the model results and the data recorded at several points within the estuaries.
