Very little information is published about the depth, distribution and biology of the gorgonian soft coral Paramuricea placomus. New shallow records from about 30 m depth in the Trondheimsfjord extend the species depth-distribution area considerably. Compared with hydrographical data obtained in the Trondheimsfjord during the last 20 years this also indicate that the species is less stenohaline and stenothermal than generally accepted. An extensive symbiont fauna of especially amphipods is observed on the coral stems. It is suggested that this fauna helps the colony to keep the stems free of sedimentation.
