Abstract
The management of water bodies in general and rivers or estuaries in particular has to be decided upon with reliable impact assessment studies. Hydroinformatic tools are playing an increasingly larger role in the decision making process. The case study presented here concerns the Western Scheldt estuary, the access to the Port of Antwerp. It shows how hydroinformatics can be used successfully if embedded in an overall methodology that includes field surveys, scale modelling, numerical simulations and expertise.
