Abstract
As participatory governance is on the rise in both policy and research this chapter argues that research on saline agriculture must be embedded in participatory processes. The chapter clarifies the added value of such a research approach by referring to four arguments: the substantive, the methodological, the moral and the social argument. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the “architecture” of the International Farmers’ Café on Salinization and Saline Agriculture, an event that may inspire future participatory research on saline agriculture.
