Living specimens of the Mediterranean land snail species Cochlicella barbara were found near "Het Zwin" in the north-east of Belgium and the adjoining part of The Netherlands. Most probably this occurrence is due to a recent introduction by man. The species has been found once before in Belgium (1946) in the coastal dunes of De Panne. Its occurrence there could not be reconfirmed after 1947; undoubtedly the species became extinct in this locality. No previous records are known for The Netherlands.
